Industrial subcontracting by sector

Aerospace, automotive, rail, medical, energy… each sector has its own standards, inspections and habits. Find out what applies to your parts before contacting a workshop.

Choose your sector

For each one: the requirements to know, typical parts, the skills involved and the regions where the industry is established.

Aerospace and space

Machined parts, precision sheet metalwork, special processes, inspection: what aerospace and space buyers expect from their suppliers, and how to prepare your request for a quote.

Automotive and mobility

Sheet metalwork, machining, bar turning, plastic injection, prototypes: how automotive and mobility requirements work, and how to prepare a request for a quote suited to your volumes.

Rail

Certified welding, sheet metalwork, machining, interior fit-out and spare parts: what rolling stock manufacturers and maintainers expect, and how to prepare your request for a quote.

Medical

Instruments, implants, equipment housings, laboratory parts: what medical device manufacturers require of their suppliers, and how to prepare a suitable request for a quote.

Energy

Fabrication, pipework, machining of large parts, structures and maintenance: what energy players, from nuclear to renewables, are looking for, and how to prepare your request.

Food and drink processing

Stainless steel parts, conveyor components, guards and tooling for production lines: set out your food-contact requirements and compare proposals from workshops in France.

Special-purpose machines and robotics

Welded frames, machined parts, guards, grippers and tooling: find workshops to build your special-purpose machines, robot cells and their equipment.

Hardware startups and innovative products

From first prototype to small batch: find workshops that accept starting quantities, advise you on manufacturability and respect the confidentiality of your product.

Shipbuilding and boating

Stainless steel and aluminium parts, bespoke deck hardware, pipework, welding and fit-out: compare workshops for your ships, pleasure boats and marine equipment.

Luxury and watchmaking

Micro-engineering, metal parts, engraving, polishing and finishing: find workshops able to meet the exacting standards of luxury, from watchmaking to leather goods.

Why requirements differ from one sector to another

Two parts that are identical on the drawing can require months of qualification or a simple order confirmation, depending on where they will be fitted. It all comes down to risk: a failure on an aircraft engine, an implant or a pressure vessel does not have the same consequences as a defect on a shelving bracket. Each industry has therefore built its own framework: sector-specific quality standards (EN 9100 for aerospace, IATF 16949 for automotive, ISO 13485 for medical), traceability, inspection and documentation requirements, and sometimes European regulations that directly bind the manufacturer.

These requirements are passed down the chain: the final buyer imposes them on its suppliers, who pass them on to their own subcontractors. For a buyer and a workshop alike, knowing what applies to the part from the quote request avoids unpleasant surprises: expected certifications, material certificates, first article report, qualification lead times. Always ask the supplier for their current certificates and check that they cover the process concerned.

The pages for each sector detail these points, without replacing your customer’s specifications: these take precedence. To structure your requirements, use our specifications guide.
